A few years ago, I listened to the audiobook Atomic Habits by James Clear. Probably one of the best books I've listened to. In fact, it helped me get back into a consistent exercise routine in a way that felt realistic and sustainable, not all-or-nothing.

Since then, this book has come to mind in so many areas of my life, especially when I’m trying to start something new or feeling challenged.

In a recent newsletter, James Clear shared three quotes from his book, and I thought they were great reminders!

I notice how often I slip into “fix it” or “achieve it” mode, when what I’m really wanting is a lifestyle change, not a short-term solution.

Quote #1

"New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results."

Quote #2

"Improvements are only temporary until they become part of who you are.

  • The goal is not to read a book, the goal is to become a reader.

  • The goal is not to run a marathon, the goal is to become a runner.

  • The goal is not to learn an instrument, the goal is to become a musician.

Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity. This year, focus on the identity you want to build."

Quote #3

"Decide the type of person you want to be. Prove it to yourself with small wins."

As I move into the new year, I’m feeling really excited about growing my coaching work and sharing what supported me during my coaching certification training, especially the tools that helped me move forward when I felt stuck or just needed clarity.

If you’re ready to move forward on something and want support working through blocks, limiting beliefs, or old patterns, I’m always open to a conversation.
