What My Cat, Squeaks, Taught Me About Being Enough

On Sunday, December 14th, I said goodbye to my cat, Squeaks. 💔

I’ve been reflecting on how much he taught me.

One of the biggest realizations I had was that I loved and adored him simply for being him.

Squeaks didn’t need to do anything to earn my love. He didn’t need to be useful, productive, impressive, or “better.” His worth was never questioned. He was loved, cared for, and cherished just because he existed.

And he loved me the same way. I didn’t have to prove anything to him. I didn’t have to be in a good mood or be at my best. I could just be me, and I was loved, fully and unconditionally.

This quote showed up on my calendar:

“Give yourself permission to not have a ‘purpose.’ Ultimately, life is about joy, not productivity or the subjective goalposts of success. Grant yourself the grace to exist in this world. Being alive is a miracle. You are enough simply because you are you.” — Bernadette Harris

Reading it felt like Squeaks speaking to me one more time.

So many of us move through life believing we have to do more, be more, or be different to be worthy of love, rest, belonging, or care. We tie our value to our roles, our productivity, our achievements, or how well we’re holding everything together.

What if, like Squeaks, you are already enough, simply because you exist?

This is your reminder

  • You don’t have to prove anything to be loved.

  • You don’t have to justify your place in this world.

  • Your presence alone matters.

If this idea of being enough just as you are feels hard, uncomfortable, or even out of reach right now, please know I’m here.

I’m opening a few complimentary spots in January for supportive conversations, a space to pause, reflect, and be met where you are.
